If you’re a cross-trainer who needs to travel a lot for work or just a free and restless spirit who’s always looking for a new exotic destination to explore, chances are one of the first things you’ll try to find when your plane lands: a gym. While some very good strength and cardio gyms happen to be located in some of the most remote places, such as Viet Nam, South and Central America, and even North Africa, it’s inevitable that eventually, you’re going to arrive at a place that does not have a proper gym.
One solution is to use Wi-Fi and tune into live or recorded online body/cardio workouts. Or perhaps you’d like to use your smartphone to find a workout app. But if your destination doesn’t have decent Wi-Fi, and you don’t want to run up a big cell phone bill, you will need to select another method for staying in shape.
According to a recent report from Wander, expe riencing different landscapes, cultures, and foods when you travel will most definitely enrich your life and broaden your horizons. However, it can be a real challenge to maintain your fitness routine and stay in great shape.
But keeping up with your fitness routine doesn’t need to be complicated just because you can’t get to a proper gym. All you really need to perform effective strength training and maintain a cardio routine is your own body weight.
Why Choose a Bodyweight Workout When You Can’t Get to Gym?
Bodyweight is said to be a traveler’s best ally when it comes to keeping fit. This is due to its adaptability to numerous circumstances. When you exercise using your own body weight, you don’t need specialized equipment or free weights since you will be utilizing your own body as resistance.
This means your own body weight is an accessible alternative for world travelers since you can perform satisfying workouts without relying on access to a fully functional gym. In fact, when traveling, your gym is anywhere you choose. You can work out on the beach, in a park, or even in your hotel room.
That said, here are some excellent bodyweight travel exercises that will keep you in shape no matter where you find yourself in the world.
1. Pushups
2. Bodyweight Squats
3. Planks
4. Lunges
5. Triceps Dips
6. Bridge Poses
7. Mountain Climbers
8. Superman Core Exercise
9. Burpees
10. Leg Raises
11. Pullups
12. Chin-ups
13. Crunches for the Core
All of these exercises can be accomplished without using a gym and its equipment. Triceps dips can be performed using a chair or a park bench. Pullups and chin-ups can be accomplished using a stable overhead beam or bar like a swing set.
Naturally, the number of reps and sets you do will depend on your strength and training level. As for cardio, you can either run in place for ten to twenty minutes or go for a jog. Jogging is also a great way to explore new territory while exercising.
When I'm on the go, I like to take a couple of fabric bands on my journey because they are a great way to stay fit while traveling. These bands are lightweight, easy to pack, and extremely versatile. Personally, I prefer Arena Strength Bands as they are durable and offer a wide range of resistance levels to suit my needs. Whether I'm looking to tone my muscles or increase my strength, these bands have been incredibly effective. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to stay in shape while on the move.
